Define Beauty

By Suwen Liew
Beauty is a form of contradiction.
An eviction,
that leaves us staring at a reflection
which will never be good enough,
Because we’re too busy
Weighing ourselves
On a scale that says “fat”.
On a scale that lacks
reasoning.
Where waists have to be paper thin,
Where thighs have to be thinner than our skins,
Where tummies have to be flatter than sinking
Self esteems, that want to be
Clean of labels,
Instead of examined on tables
By the public eye.
Pieced apart by the spotlight
That want to burn off these imperfections,
Reconstruct our bodies
That leave us bare boned in flesh as
Society’s skeletons.
